- CEO Paolo Morandi: "It was a success. We made a transition, also a generational one. Now we are working to grow further, together"

Flero (Brescia), 12 May 2023 - Made in Steel, the international Conference & Exhibition dedicated to the steel supply chain, has grown again.

From 9 to 11 May, halls 22 and 24 of fieramilano Rho hosted 317 companies, more than the previous record in 2019, and a sharp rise also compared to the previous edition of 2021, marred by the Covid-19 pandemic and the relevant travelling restrictions. More than 25% of the exhibiting companies came from abroad (versus 23% in 2019). 21 countries were represented, including Italy.

A total of 18,467 attendances were recorded, a marked increase compared to 2019. Moreover,  visitors and exhibitors of Lamiera were granted free admission to Made in Steel. The international event dedicated to the industry of machine tools for sheet metal forming and cutting and related innovative technologies, organised by UCIMU-SISTEMI PER PRODURRE, was held in parallel with Made in Steel.

33% international visitors coming from 81 countries (26% in 2019  from 77 countries).

65 selected buyers, mostly international, took part in the event thanks to the renewed collaboration with ICE, the Agency for the promotion and internationalisation of Italian companies.

"All the preconditions for this year's edition of Made in Steel to be a success were met: following  two very positive years, despite the present slowdown, there is a palpable desire on the part of steel operators to seize the opportunities expected for the second half of the year. And success it was! Exhibition spaces were already sold out in January and we have never had so many attendees. Made in Steel, the event organised by siderweb - La community dell'acciaio, is a moment of encounter,  exchange, and storytelling for the entire steel supply chain. An edition, the tenth, made particularly special by the 'beauty' of the stands and halls. The result is comforting and brightens our plans for growing together. Because only together can we face the future" said Paolo Morandi, CEO of siderweb and Made in Steel.

Over 50 Italian and European speakers took part in the conferences and talks in the siderweb ARENA. Among others Alessandro Banzato (president Acciaierie Venete), Gianpietro Benedetti (president Danieli Group), Riccardo Benso (president Assofermet), Franco Bernabè (president Acciaierie d'Italia), Mario Arvedi Caldonazzo (CEO Finarvedi and vice-president Eurofer),

Fernando Espada (Eurometal), Antonio Gozzi (president Federacciai), Stefano Vittorio Kuhn (head of Retail and Commercial Banking BPER Banca), Emma Marcegaglia (Chairman and CEO Marcegaglia Holding), Antonio Marcegaglia (president and CEO Marcegaglia Steel), Claudia Parzani (Partner Linklaters, Chair Borsa Italiana, Deputy Chair Il Sole 24 Ore), Giuseppe Pasini (president Feralpi Group), Enrico Pazzali (president Fondazione Fiera Milano), Yuriy Ryzhenkov (CEO Metinvest). Made in Steel also hosted the public assembly of Federacciai on Wednesday 10 May.

The 11th edition of Made in Steel will be held in 2025.

GENERATION TRANSFER, YOUNG PEOPLE AND WOMEN - The title of this tenth edition was 'GENERATIONS, re-imagining our world': the leitmotif of the contents was the focus on the new generations in steel, who bring innovation and new energy and at the same time need to be guided and inspired by those who built the steel industry as we know it today.

Two projects were unveiled during this edition of the event. 'Acciaio al femminile' (Women's Steel), was launched at the beginning of 2022, and during the event held its first meeting in the presence of its leading working group,  made up of female professionals from the steel supply chain, convened in the siderweb ARENA, to listen to the story of journalist and writer Francesca Mannocchi.

"If we want to think about the future and the new generations, it is essential to highlight the contribution that women  bring to the steel supply chain. "Acciaio al femminile' brings together and the skills and experiences of female professionals in our world, with the aim of  listening to external testimonies that can enrich our personal and professional heritage" said Francesca Morandi, content manager of siderweb and Made in Steel

The second project, 'Steel Young', led by Made in Steel CEO Paolo Morandi, is aimed at the new generations in steel companies that are facing, or will soon face, the generational transition, with all its challenges and opportunities. The project was presented in the siderweb ARENA, with journalist and storyteller Fabio Tavelli, in the first of a series of meetings.
