Brescia (Italy), 20 December 2024 - Made in Steel 2025 is sold out. The eleventh edition of the international Conference & Exhibition dedicated to the steel supply chain designed and organised by siderweb – La community dell’acciaio, has smashed its previous record: the net exhibition area will exceed 18 thousand square metres. This is a sign of confidence of the international steel industry and a new record for the event, which has increased its exhibition area by 20% compared to 2023, the best ever edition so far in the history of Made in Steel.
The other main indicators are also clearly encouraging when compared to past editions. Provisional exhibition data show that exhibitors are up by about 6.5% compared to 2023; 31% come from abroad, compared to 25% at the previous edition. All major global and national steel groups will be present.
The event, which every second year attracts hundreds of exhibitors from Italy and around the world, will be hosted in Halls 22 and 24 of fieramilano Rho (Milan), on a total exhibition area of over 35,000 square metres. The claim chosen for this eleventh edition is “The Beauty of Steel”.
Paolo Morandi, CEO of Made in Steel and siderweb: “Made in Steel 2025 will be an important moment of meeting and confrontation for the world of steel. We are living in a very complex context, which is why the 2025 Conference & Exhibition organised by siderweb takes on even greater importance. Through the rich programme of conferences, we will delve into all the hot topics of the steel sector, both Italian and European.”
THE BUSINESS - Between January and Novembre 2024, Italy produced 18.810 million tons of steel, down 4.7% compared to the same period in 2023 (source: Federacciai, latest available data). The European Union between January and October, according to World Steel Association, churned out 109.3 million tonnes of steel, up 2.1%. Germany, the European leader, produced 31.6 million tonnes (+5%) in the first 10 months of the year.
As for steel prices on the domestic market, in November the siderweb Scrap Index (representative of the trend of all carbon steel scrap on the Italian market) registered a +2%. The Carbon Steel Index (representing the performance of all finished carbon steel products on the Italian market) rose 0.9%. The Stainless Steel Index (representative of the performance of all finished steel products (long and flat) decreased by 0.1% between the end of October and the end of November.
The steel industry continues to suffer from weak downstream demand and competition at the distribution level. Prices of steel products have been either stable or declining for months, with some upward adjustments that have not always been accepted by the downstream market.
In this context, operators are looking at 2025 with cautious optimism, expecting an improved outlook from the second and third quarter. In the meantime, the main forecasts predict a slight increase in steel demand.
